L21 Frequency mod for MB8719

Hello all,

Back at it again.

There seems to be little talk about this modification. This is a strange mod in which you place a variable resistor from L21 to PIN 10 of the MB8719 to achieve a 128 upward channel shift which is amazing compared to the usual 64 upward shift you get from simply grounding pin 10. I have encountered this mod in many of the MB8719 radios I've fixed and I usually scuff at it and remove it without really looking into it and seeing if it's a legitimate mod with...

View attachment 28645 A fellow tossed his blown out A99 my way when it would no longer tune. Someone had apparently fried it's innards.
It lay around for a while as my vertical dipole was doing just fine... until really high winds took out the mounting bracket. I decided it was a good time to use the fried A99.
I had a homebrewed Ringo style matcher so I mated them, tuned it up, and put it on the mast.

I have been messing wit this radio on and off for a very long time. Kees up when plugged in but the RX/TL light does not change and when you key the Mic and talk the radio has forward swing. If you take the PA/Squelch out(same Pot.) radio works like it should but RX/TX light stays red and turns green on TX.

No grounds from chassis ground to board ground.
Caps on mic. socket board changed.
parts checked
swopped pa/squelch.
TR47 TX Sw.
TR 27 PA Sw.
C115.
TR 35. Tx inhibitor.
TR 41 and 42...

Quick question , set it up to the specs that was giving, instead of 27.205 being perfect, my readings at 26.205 are 1.1...….would adjusting the gamma on this help get the cb band where it should? CB band is around 1.5 to about 2.0. Thanks for any input .BTW this's the Maco Ba1 Antenna

No modulation

Had the ext speaker jack resoldered on my connex 3400 and now I’m getting no modulation and buzzing noise when I talk into the mic. I can receive just fine. Everything I’ve read has me leaning towards the echo board. Does that sound right? New to the cb game but wanting to learn. Also if it is the echo board what can I replace mine with. Seems that parts for the 3400hp are hard to come by

We've had a couple of downturns in the CB hobby in the last 20 years but the lackluster cycles and new technology for the new generation really seems to be putting the nail in the coffin.

The two main clubs in my state shut down and the last CB break was 9 years ago I think.

I live in a county of 200,000 people and there isn't a single other CB hobbyist in the entire county, at least no one that I've heard in the last 5 years.

In the area 50 miles north of me there are 2.75 million people...

Not talking about a Low Pass filter; but a true band-pass filter?

Like to get one if anyone knows of a company that sells one - or even looking for a schematic to build one . . .

I have a Texas star DX 500
What would be the maximum watt input to drive the amp? I have heard numerous conflicting stories . The amp has been modified, removing the 10 gauge wires and fuses , and instead installing four gauge wires with an external 50 amp fuse ,

If anyone has it that cares to comment......

I'm thinking of getting this one. I know there are some pretty old threads that talk about it but some forums don't like "resurrection of dead posts" so much..... so I wanted to ask......

Is the book geared towards teaching you how various circuits work? How to troubleshoot? Just a collection of "tips and tweaks"? Would you say that it is "as in depth as the reader cares to go"?

I've been watching some repair threads the wind up...

RM 10 meter amp approved by the FCC?

I was browsing eBay and saw one of theses amps listed as FCC approved. RM also has it listed as such on their website. I wonder if this is true or just BS to sell more amps. Their Facebook page also mentions this one an another amp that allegedly passed FCC lab tests and are available in the US market. I'm a little skeptical.

New Ranger 39VHP—Low RX audio - almost none

A new radio came in with low RX audio. Volume cranked, ear to speaker, then I can hear it. Rf gain level is up and signal meter responds as it should so the rf is there. The audio is just almost nonexistent.

Note: TX and Talkback audio is fine.

Newbie with vertical install of HF antenna

I have just obtained my General license this weekend. Tested for Technician and General. Passed both. Failed Extra but that is ok. Goal was to obtain General.

So now I need to erect an antenna. I was given a Hustler 5dtv vertical. My wife says she is ok to have it in the back yard. So here is my total plan of putting up the antenna. I have a row of junipers along the back fence. I have a spot between two of the junipers that I have cleared out and could install the vertical. So...
