What Signal Generator do you use?

$

Ok, so the life of a hobbiest. I am aligning a radio and having trouble with the receive alignment. I play with everything but it turns out that my HP 8660C signal generator is not working correctly. When I go from -80dB to -70dB the signal drops out. It's a battleship of a piece of equipment but it may be time to replace it on a budget. What are you using that would be considered a budget buy?

We know it's coming now so figured we could get ahead and start a thread like we did for it's siblings.

Hopefully we can eventually add the frequency mod and report on performance here as well.

Do we know anything about the release yet? Come on anytone, we're waiting!

Yeah I recently acquired this antenna analyzer From a friend of mine and he said it worked fine until he wired up the power cord backwards and plugged it in! It was the right voltage just the wrong polarity. It will not power on now not that I’m surprised just want to find out what all I need to do to repair it may be a simple polarity protection diode? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Uniden Tempo 2020

It's parentage sometimes confused with Yaesu (the Tempo One was Yaesu) and the Uniden applied to other than the US radio which was Henry, The 2020 is an interesting Hybrid in two ways. First it uses the 12BY7A driver and the 6146 pair as do many other Hybrids. Second is the curious Hybrid synthesizer that not only uses a dial for the last digits but spans 100KHz in 5 steps. The Yahoo group dedicated to Tempo 2020 is a great resource.

Now onto the "fun"

My 2020 came to me with a broken...

Did a couple of HT charging bases

I recently drew up & printed parts for DC powered charging bases for a couple of HT's. Their OEM bases had either broken mounts or were AC only.

I did a couple for the BF-888S, mainly due to the OEM base being 110v AC only. The DIY version has a USB-C socket for 5v input.

Contacts used are Keystone 5321, M2.5 cap head screws hold them in place. The rest of assembly is done with M3 cap head screws.

I also did a couple for the UV-B5. The OEM base...

Base antenna 2m/70cm/murs/gmrs

So my spring/summer plan is an antenna upgrade. Currently have a mono band Tram BF2M3 on 20 feet of mast pipe. Works well for MURS and 2m talking. I might be asking for a lot but I need something that can cover 2m, 70cm, MURS, and GMRS. I've been looking at the Diamond x300a and a Comet GP-6. I would love to get any input or suggestions from forum members. I'm hoping there is an option that will get that coverage and maintain a usable SWR.

Walk-through and commentary.

Disclaimer: This transmitter is not approved for any type use in the US, and the FCC will be making a path to your location should you use more than 500 milliwatts. A lot less if you are interfering with a weak signal that happens to be your neighbor's favorite Modern Country station.

I have been eyeballing this device on eBay for use for movie night in a field afar, and as possibly the medium to transmit audio for Christmas-time...

I imagine most may already have a way that works for them but I am just thinking of newer folks trying to build up some test equipment on a budget.
This might help some on their benches with setting driver/final bias. Surely you can do it with a DMM but some might consider this to be convenient.

I just received what you see below. A 100 mA DC ammeter WITH the appropriate plastic case ($9.95) and a set of clip leads ($4.50).

These are from a website called "Electronix Express" and I...

Galaxy dx66v vco tp3

I was given a stash of radios and this one has a rx issue. EPT3600-14B. Single bipolar final. It does TX fine, on frequency and with good modulation. But, tp3 is reading zilch on rx and reading the channel frequency on TX, not the expected vco frequency. That's got me bugged. I did find the tp3 side of L18 opened, and the vco buffer does have the expected frequency running, pll locked and PD output as expected.

I'm thinking the rf attenuator diodes D15/D16 may be shot, along with maybe tr17...

Hello, I have a bunch of radios i need to work on and I’m still learning. I’m still diagnosing with a lack of tools.

My current radio that just decided to stop is a Philippine uniden Grant xl.

The situation: I was running the radio last night and I was receiving well. I had some locals out there talking so I thought I’d chime in.

The mic would transmit into the radio but I started hearing myself through the external speaker “with the mic gain up”.

So to check what was going on I turned...

I have this nice little TR-751A 2M All-Mode transceiver for sale. I no longer use it since I purchased a TS-2000.

Hot receiver and very good audio both Tx & Rx. 25 watts RF output,TU-7 PL tone board installed, MC48 TTP mic, Kenwood DC power cables & DC power filter, lockable quick-release mobile mount. OP & Service manuals included. Sorry, no OEM box.

8.0 physical condition, 9.0 operational condition. Mic cable is old (dry & brittle) and should be replaced, a new coiled-cable is...

AT-6666PRO Handles

Just got an AT-6666PRO in & did a initial test on a set of protective "handles" I drew up. They extend far enough to protect the knobs and have a provision for adding "pegs" to elevate the front. Although I have a large format printer that could print them in one piece, I split the model to allow printing with a smaller build plate. Assembly of each side is done with M3 cap head screws. The model is symmetrical, so it is printed twice to provide for both sides.

Retevis Ailunce HS4 10 Meter Radio Review

A couple of months ago, Retevis sent me a pre-production Ailunce HS4 10 meter radio to evaluate and provide feedback on. I've been playing with it for a while, and now that the radio is released, I can publicly review this radio.

Let's get the obvious out of the way: This is a 30 watt CB style radio, sold as a 10 meter radio but it can obviously be converted for use on 11 meters. What you decide to do with your radio is...

Radioddity is releasing their radio. A test sample for evaluation and review, was shipped to me today. It is a re-badged AT-5555NII "Short Chassis" model.

It has lineage from AT-6666 Pro's feature set. When you thought that the release of the Q6 Pro was exciting enough, here comes this one. Some prefer larger radios, with larger displays (like myself). However, I run a 6666 in my vehicle, because that is what fits! I have has a 5555N for years now and think a lot of it. I also have the...
