Hi,
I'm looking to build a Dummy load suitable for peaks of 200 watts. I've ordered a 200w 50ohm resistor: Amazon product ASIN B01MXMBMIC
I'm planning to wire this to an SO-239 using some 12 gauge solid core eletrical wire. Then I was thinking about putting in it a small paint can filled with oil. Do I need to take any precautions to keep the resistance fixed when I do this? Like should I heatshrink the terminals so they stay dry?
What type of oil to use? I have loads of used engine oil...

Galaxy dx66v vco tp3
I was given a stash of radios and this one has a rx issue. EPT3600-14B. Single bipolar final. It does TX fine, on frequency and with good modulation. But, tp3 is reading zilch on rx and reading the channel frequency on TX, not the expected vco frequency. That's got me bugged. I did find the tp3 side of L18 opened, and the vco buffer does have the expected frequency running, pll locked and PD output as expected.
I'm thinking the rf attenuator diodes D15/D16 may be shot, along with maybe tr17...

RM-3 MOSFET TRANSISTOR
What do these RM-3 Mos transistors actually put out? I see these being used in different smaller amplifiers and was wondering how much power AM and SSB they will produce and what the drive is they will take??
I see these little RM Italy amplifiers run these and I often wonder if their worth buying them as people do. Will they produce 50 watts even?? Or are they more like a 30 watt transistor?? That would be funny considering a dual final radio will do 30 watts.

Cobra UK 29 LTD ST Mod
Hi all,
I got the rig a few weeks ago and it works fine. There is a mod were you unsolder 2 contacts and it should then open up the rig to AM/FM and do 26 to 28 MHz. I've done the mod but it doesn't seem to have worked. Still only got 80 channels UK/EU
Anyone done this mod ? Is there something else to do ? Should I resolder it and give up ?
Any help greatly appreciated.

This might help some on their benches with setting driver/final bias. Surely you can do it with a DMM but some might consider this to be convenient.

Portable Umbrella Stand Antenna
Need a quick, portable stand mount for your CB or Ham antenna?
I traded my portable tripod for a patio umbrella stand now that mowing season is here.
The tripod was held down with tent stakes and cable ties and was a hassle to move and set back up.
With this, I can detach the wire radial and carry everything to the patio to mow. Quick and easy to set back up.![:giggle:]( "Giggle :giggle:")
Would be great for camping.

[Solved] Cobra 148 GTL Malaysia clarifier unlock problem.
Hello all,
I will get to making another post about my quick trip to Nevada, but for this moment, I really need some help on a Cobra 148 GTL clarifier unlock. I did follow the steps on the post from our very own Nomad, but when I do that, the TX/RX is so far off about a couple channels it seemed. I put everything back, it works again and is on the channel you selected.
I did Desolder one of the legs of the diodes near the crystal as specified, but the radio is still way off.

Cheap Auto tuner I'm gandering at.
I came across this little tuner. I remember these starting to hit the market before I took my radio Sabbatical. Anyway, I want a little tuner to use in my current mobile set-up. Anyone have experience with it or similar one?

Galaxy DX-2547 no AM output, SSB ok.
Got another weird one on the desk.
Galaxy DX-2547 (no mods other than frequency expansion).
Issue:
No AM output
Checked:
AM receive - great
SSB receive - great
SSB output - great both modes
Alignment - great, all freqs deadon.
All switches/knobs work as new
Meter and all lights work as new
No heating issues
Talks great on either SSB.
Tested:
Passthrough - 2SB827 (weak, replaced with new 2SB817).
Q53, tested fine but replaced anyway.
Q56, tested fine but replaced anyway.
All diodes in...
