148 gtl keys up but no transmit.

Hey guys, This is my first post in here.
I have an older (March 89) cobra 148 gtl. I've been having problems with it and I'm hoping I can get some help here. When I first aquired this radio it turned on with no transmit and no recive. After messig with it for a while I found the cb pa switch was bad. If you wiggle it around it will revive just fine but, when I try to transmit the radio keys up and the light switches but there is no audio being transmitted. The radio does break the squelch...

Hi All.

I have this terrible packrat habit that I'd like to break. It's getting expensive to move with these items but it's hard to part with some of them. The first excuse was that I might use it someday. That became save it for the kids.

So I dusted this old rig off, hooked it to an old mag-mount on a barbeque grill (which did NOT please my wife!) and got the curiosity out of my system. The radio still works on the original 23 channels but I could not figure out how to use the...

I got this amp so I can shoot DX when I go camping.. was running the RM KL503 with my cobra 148 all I did was use it on low power pushing about 10 watts max SSB in to it, and getting 110 watts out. and I was sound ruff to people... so I took it with my 148GTL to the shop get set up well it came back bad predriver he replaced it with a IRF520.. ok cool I used it a few times pushing 100 watts on setting 1 no complaints. and now every one tells me it sounds like trash... WTF...

Saw this new 50 watt SR-447 HPC2 AM/FM 10 meter transceiver while perusing the Stryker radio site. It appears to be a slimmed down version so it will fit better in mobile applications.

Big sound claim also "SR-447 HPC-2 also features internal treble and bass adjustment for the receiver that helps in noise reduction, specifically white noise. Full, Rich HiFi modulation add depth to your message enhancing your voice as well as keeping it loud"

Somebody Buy one quick, and do a review,and a few on air test with other mics too.I found it on Bells web site and when The page opens at the top it says RF Limited Microphone. Don't know, this might be a mistake.

ANYONE use this mode we are on 14.079 daily except when RTTY contest is on.
You can get the mode for free on MUTIPSK software and it is in the FEC mode. Looking for a good 40 and 80 meter frequency also.
Anyone qso with each other let us know and the results.

I am looking for the best mobile antenna to be mounted on an OTR truck with the best send and receive. Any good suggestions? I used to run a Wilson 5000 Trucker. I want to try the Sirio Performer 5000. Any and all help and suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Am radio to drive DX-500?

I am going to get a new am radio to pair with my dx500. Is a cobra 29 or 148 enough to drive it? I'm not looking for 600+ out of it, heck I'd be good with 300. Would I be better off with something like a connex 3300? Also, is it a problem that my truck runs at 15 to 15.2 volts? I would assume that if I keep it under 400 watts it shouldn't make much difference? Thanks

Thanks in advance for reading, and hopefully making some suggestions. I believe the radio is a 1995 year or close to it, with a EPT014810Z board. On side band, (both usb and lsb) it does not swing the meter needle on the radio, nor does it produce any needle swing on the swr/power meter (Radio Shack 21-534) with a loud voice or whistle. In AM mode, there is needle swing on the CB, and on the swr/power meter, AM seems to work as it should. The TX light does change when the mike is keyed...

I have a galaxy dx66v has been converted to mosfet.now on my cheap Palomar meter I can set dead key as low as 1watt high as ten watts and swing 35 watts so I assume it has a swing mod I don't want this swing mod I do not believe I enjoy the higher wattage but want durability loud but no distortion also I can only hear on one channel so might as well only talk on one I want this radio to be good barefoot in my van so I guess what I'm asking g if I should remove this mod if it has it and if so...

Here is a basically new Radio complete in box.
All accessories still in plastic.
Only thing done to radio was the Amp gate voltage was turned down to 3.5 volts from 5 (which was Factory setting way to Hot)

On 27 MHz if I calculate the loss after 100m I get 35.57 dB lost and after 500 m 49.55 dB lost. :unsure:

There are 14 dB (more than 2 S-points) lost in 400 m ???

What is the reference ? 0 m from antenna ?

I'm not the genius of mathematik but that looks strange...

Does anybody knows hot to use it ?

OK so here it is I just got a galaxy melaka for Xmas to find out I can't put a antenna up or tower in my townhouse complex so I was thinking on getting a good mobile antenna and running it out of my garage and mounting it on my car as if it were being used as a mobile. Should this be OK and I'm thing on the sirio 5000 for antenna

I have an Optima MK3 that I ordered from coldfrontsales on 1-30-16. I opened it to change the mode, and nothing else was touched. I also drilled the hole over the mic, but other than that it hasn't been monkeyed with. This radio has been overhead in my truck for most of the time I've had it. I haven't really cared for it because it isn't that great on am, the buttons don't light up, and noise cancelling mics don't work well with it. I would keep it if I ever planned to setup a base, but...
