Got one of the new ones. I really like it. I like how the output power is set within menu. Once you set it where you want, it is fixed. Can't accidentally turn it up and poof my little KL-300.

Has good audio with stock mic. All I did was turn AMC up a smidgen and adjusted ALC to 12 watts. The front firing speaker sounds good. I like it better than the 980.

The noise blanker is berries. Only negative...when using an external speaker, I can hear a slight tone when volume is low. I don't hear...

CB radio Becoming Respectable Again???

Let’s be honest. CB radio has the reputation of being filled with nothing but misfits using raunchy language. Where I live though, CB radio is making a comeback and it’s mainly the 20 & 30 somethings. Us younger folks on the CB are cordial and carry on really decent conversations using the Queens English. Albeit with a southern accent. I know about 10 or so people with CB radios personally and all of us run stock. No amps or noise toys to be found among us.

CB Base Station Hybrid

Have seen people build a wooden cabinet around their mobile radio to make it look more like a base station. (Never really saw one that looked worth a flip though.)

Would it be possible to place the chassis of a new mobile unit into an empty vintage base station cabinet and wire it so that the controls on the cabinet functioned?
That would give the best of both worlds. Vintage looks/New electronics.

For example, combining a Cobra 25 LTD and a Royce 619 cabinet.
Or a . . . the possibilities...

High Drive Amps?

Looking for an amp that I can use with my Yaesu FT-991a and Icom 7200 for 10-11m use. Sadly the Yaesu can't go below a 5 watt carrier (way to much for my 667) and the Icom sounds like ass when run below 3-4 watts, so looking for something I CAN run even a 10-20W carrier into and not blow it up. Any suggestions?

Not much out there comes up when you look for High Drive amps, seems the definition is ALL over the place, especially when looking at Texas Star, thanks!

Digital frequency display for the Tram D201 radios.

A digital frequency display for the Tram D201 radios would be nice, but there's a problem. The only displays that fit the VFO dial window are LCD. Black dot-matrix numbers on a green backlighted background.

Customers don't like LCDs. Neither do I.

Tried it. It worked, but I didn't like it.

But every LED frequency display I can find, since the 1980s-era PDC256 is just too big to fit inside a window that's 2 and 1/8 inches wide.

The solution, of course is to roll your own. Never design...

Frequency mod General Stonewall??

I know the radio can be modded to have it go up to the freeband area but you lose the high end of the 10 meter portion of the band as the highest the radio will now go is 28.302.
Is there a way to have an external switch or use a front panel switch so that you can go from just having the stock frequencies flip the switch and now you have the lower freeband portion???

Which PVC to use for a feed point on dipole? Is ugly balun needed?

I asked by friend Google but there was no response that made the answer clear. I do see photos and write ups of those who have built fan dipoles or dipoles in general and they were white or gray. Now I have so much of the black PVC but no white in the 4 inch size. I collected it for making ports in DIY speakers so there is quite a bit of it around in my garage.

I want to make a 80m inverted V dipole and wonder if the black would be alright to use or am I seeing white and gray only due to...

Getting back into radio..out for 30+ years. A old Ham Friend offered me a older Contex 150 from Biggs Electronics. Had to get into his attic to find it,in all the dirt and cobwebs.. its pretty ruff and covered with dirt and grime! Is it worth saving..was it any good? Any/All info on this amp would be helpful! Thank You.

We've had a couple of downturns in the CB hobby in the last 20 years but the lackluster cycles and new technology for the new generation really seems to be putting the nail in the coffin.

The two main clubs in my state shut down and the last CB break was 9 years ago I think.

I live in a county of 200,000 people and there isn't a single other CB hobbyist in the entire county, at least no one that I've heard in the last 5 years.

In the area 50 miles north of me there are 2.75 million people...

L21 Frequency mod for MB8719

Hello all,

Back at it again.

There seems to be little talk about this modification. This is a strange mod in which you place a variable resistor from L21 to PIN 10 of the MB8719 to achieve a 128 upward channel shift which is amazing compared to the usual 64 upward shift you get from simply grounding pin 10. I have encountered this mod in many of the MB8719 radios I've fixed and I usually scuff at it and remove it without really looking into it and seeing if it's a legitimate mod with...

There seems to be a growing trend in removal of our Second Amendment rights, the latest of which is these "Red Flag Laws" being promoted. Many counties are declaring 2nd Amendment Sanctuaries, even some states are pushing for removal of concealed carry permits. Latest of those is Ohio. I believe OK has done so also, possibly KY, too!
