Maco 103C at 45 feet
HyGain P-500 will be mounted above the beam

Assembling the Maco 103C and mounting it Horizontal this next week..

It is said (and obviously true) that this will not work as well as a vertical mounted beam in a LOCAL vertical environment.

My question is, how does one define local?
Obviously 5 miles away a station would be considered local.
Same with someone 15 miles away.
But there are many towns that surround us in a 35 mile radius.
There are even more in a 60 mile...

Best groundplane ???

Who makes the best ground-plane for the money. Been looking at the maco v58, the Sirio Tornado, and the Hy gain Super Penetrator. Any other antenna out there better for the money? 150 or less. Will get it up about 30 feet at the mount. What do you guys think.

Suppose you only have a base station and would like to maximize your antenna power.
Suppose you only had access to six complete sets, unopened packs of Over the road truckers (18 wheelers) phased 48" 7/8 wave Mirror Mount antenna kits (enough to set up six, 18 wheelers with dual antennas).

Suppose you had access to a very large, flat lot and could mount the antennas 30 feet into the air.

Note: I just happen to have 6 sets (From the 70's) that are still in the packages.

Optima MK3

Going to sell my Optima MK3 . I bought the Radio Dec 2015 so I have had it for a year. I always use external speakers on my Mobil radios, This radio was used as a base on a power supply and was never mobil. I was moving so equipment around and reached around the back of the radio and plugged the speaker back into the Jack. and I guess I didn't push it in correctly and broke the plastic jack on the back of the radio. I opened the radio and saw that its connected to the board and Plastic....

2970N2 project

Hi I bought a project N2 with no amp. I didn't get all wiring for the CPU and need to know what jumper wire(s) I will need to complete the hookup.
I see on schematic where they go but the J10 one has me confused like it showing going to the mic board from J10 then to CPU?
Is that jumper wire like 3 or 4 jumpers on it?
I'm also going to try to use it as a 2950dx since no amp and it does have the dual finals in it?
Also need to know what hooks to the open connectors cn604-605 on CPU?

RM Station 550

I have an RM station 550 no KLV on it that sounds horrible on sideband but clean on AM i tried this fix but can not seem to make it sound good on SSB any ideas? This amp does not have R29 and 30 side by side. here is a photo of the amp and 2 scope snaps of modulation with the amp off and on. Any help would great. Thanks

Is the RCI 2970N4 suitable for driving an amp?

I have a new 2970N4 (built in 4 pill) and was considering trying to use it to drive a 12-pill in the mobile. I would like to use the radio as a nice driver, putting out an easy 250 watts PEP.

Has anyone ever used this radio, or one like it to drive a bigger amp? Any downfalls to doing so?

Microphone Wiring (Turner +3 to Uniden Washington)

Thanks for your help with this one. I have a Turner Plus Three microphone with 3 conductors (red, black, white, plus the shield) that I'd like to connect to a Uniden Washington (5-pin ). The original materials for the Turner say black and red are for control switching, white is the signal (hot) lead, and shield is ground. I'm not sure how to match this up with the Washington 5-pin.

One site says the Washington is set up this way, but I'm not sure:

Are Philippine radios special?

I've always read that radios built in the Philippines are a little better, and have a better sound than other radios. How true is this? I just came across a uniden pc66xl in my shop that was made in the Philippines. Just wondering if it's worth getting it repaired.

Hello all,
I'm new here. I am on CBjunkies.com quite a bit and heard about this site through that forum. I'm needing help with installing a variable key in the above mentioned radio. I've built the mod (I've built many), I've just never put it in a 142GTL. I can't find info anywhere on where to put it. The best I can find is to cut VR6 and put it there. Problem with that is i need to tap a coil somewhere for the 3rd pot wire (one wire goes to the cap/transistor, one goes to a ground and...

If he can make good on any of his promises, I will be amazed.

Swing Kit Vs. NPC (ept3600)

It depends on the pc board in question, on a DX66V (ept360014) a swing kit is 1N4001 diode added in series with R238, sometimes hackshops just remove the resistor and install a diode in place of R238, then they cut the AMC resistor. (n)
This allows the radio to swing to near max p.e.p. from any dead key, it looks rough on the scope.

Top or Base load for local talk

If given the same mounting and same overall height, would base loaded, center loaded, or top loaded antennas make any difference if local talk was your only goal. Im referring to a mobil setup.

WWDX Backpack Mobile - 12/10/2016

I happened to run across one of our own today on 40m running backpack mobile. I couldn't hear him on my low dipole but was able to use a local SDR to make the second half of the contact. I am sure my lack of antenna was the issue as he was 5/9 into Half Moon Bay CA from Southern California.

It was a unique confluence of events as I was hunting for a clear frequency to check some station upgrades and heard him on the same frequency.

Nice to make the contact AE6LX!

Hello again in in the process of building a 2 pill amp first one with used toshiba 2879 my question is when it comes to tuning the input and output I need trimmers ive read but the meter can I use a astatic or dosy meter for this say just hook it up backward from radio to amp for input any help will be grateful thanks
